How we collect, use, and protect your information — and what we do with your phone number.
Quik Mail Etc (“Quik Mail Etc,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a retail shipping, mailbox rental, notary, and printing store at 334 East Bay Street, Unit G, Charleston, South Carolina 29401. This policy explains what information we collect from our customers and website visitors, how we use it, and the choices you have.
It applies to this website, to the services we provide in the store, and to the text messages and emails we send to customers.
We collect only what we need to provide the services you ask us for.
This website does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across other websites. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps — used to keep the site running and secure.
We send text messages to customers who have given us their mobile number and agreed to receive them. These are service messages about your account with us: mail and package arrival notices, mailbox renewal reminders, notices about documents we need from you, and the occasional message about a change to store hours or services.
We collect consent in the store, at the counter, when you rent a mailbox or update your contact information with us. Our mailbox rental agreement and customer contact form include a checkbox stating that by providing a mobile number and checking the box, you agree to receive service text messages from Quik Mail Etc at that number. Consent is not a condition of purchase — you can rent a mailbox and use every one of our services without agreeing to receive text messages, and we will contact you by phone or email instead. We record the date, time, and source of your consent.
Message frequency varies with your account activity; most customers receive a few messages per month at most. Message and data rates may apply. Neither Quik Mail Etc nor the mobile carriers are liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message from us. You will receive one confirmation message and then no further texts. You can also ask any member of our staff to remove your number, or call the store at (843) 723-6598. Reply HELP to any message for help, or START to resume messages after opting out.
No mobile information is sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party except the messaging provider that delivers the messages on our behalf, and that provider may not use your number for any purpose other than delivering the messages you asked for.
The full terms of our text message program, including every supported keyword, are on our SMS Terms & Conditions page.
We treat your mail as your mail. Staff open or inspect a package only when a carrier requires it for packing or customs purposes, when you ask us to, or when we are required to by law.
Federal rules governing Commercial Mail Receiving Agencies require us to keep a completed and witnessed PS Form 1583 on file for every mailbox renter, to verify two forms of identification, and to retain those records while your box is active and for two years after it closes. We keep these records for that purpose and no other.
We keep customer contact and rental records for as long as you are a customer, and afterward for as long as we are required to — two years after a mailbox closes for PS Form 1583 records, and as long as tax and business record-keeping rules require for invoices and receipts. A request to stop texting you is kept indefinitely, because that is the only reliable way to be sure we never text you again.
Customer records are held in access-controlled systems available only to store staff. Paper records containing identification documents are kept secured in the store. This website is served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit who can see your information to the people who need it to do their job.
Our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes to how we use your phone number for text messaging will be described here before they take effect.
